Welcome to Kokikai Aikido of Fryeburg Maine
What is Kokikai Aikido like?
Classes consist of exercises to promote stretching, flexibility and to develop our Ki energy (calm / power / force ...)
We also practice our technique with one or more opponents (uke) involving rolls (ukeme) both forward and backward
All practice with partners is non-competitive. The way of Aikido is to unify with and re-direct the power of your opponents, guiding their force to join your own helps us in dispelling their aggression. We feel that to injure your opponent is to injure yourself.
Would you like to become involved?
Aikido has many benefits in addition to the obvious health benefits of regular exercise and effective self defense techniques. Aikido helps you to develop physical coordination and balance, and improves your senses of awareness and timing.
It is based on natural motions of the body and helps you to develop a calm mind and relaxed body. Aikido's emphasis on harmonizing and natural motion make it applicable to all aspects of your daily life.
